Why the Pool Matters

Water safety. Community health. A place for everyone. The new White Salmon Valley Pool will give kids, families, and neighbors a safe place to learn, connect, cool off in summer, and thrive year-round.

What does it mean to have a community without a pool?

Since the previous pool closed, our community has gone without a local place to learn water safety, cool off in summer, and gather as neighbors. The impact shows up in missed lessons, lost summer visits, and fewer safe, affordable options for kids, teens, families, and seniors.

Swim lessons
All lessons missed since closure

Historic capacity 450 lessons per summer Γ— 8 summers =

3,600
One segment = 450 lessons (one summer). That’s eight full summers of swim lessons the community has missed.
Summer visits
Historic attendance vs. total visits lost
Historic average (per summer) 7,000
Cumulative visits lost to date 56,000
That’s tens of thousands of missed chances for local kids, families, and seniors to swim close to home.

Why bringing the pool back matters

πŸ’§ Swim Lessons Save Lives

Formal swim lessons reduce drowning risk by up to 88% for children ages 1–4 (CDC, Pediatrics). A community pool makes safe, affordable instruction available close to home.

🌊 A Pool for Every Age

Swimming benefits everyone β€” kids, adults, and seniors. It builds strength and coordination, eases joint pain, and provides low-impact, year-round fitness for the whole community.

🏊 A Safe Space for Teens & Community

Public pools keep teens engaged in healthy, supervised spaces and give everyone a place to connect β€” from swim team and lifeguard jobs to family open swims and community events.

🌈 Local Access Matters

A community pool is essential infrastructure for safety, health, and connection. Local access means every resident β€” not just those with private options or time to travel β€” can learn to swim and safely enjoy the water together.
