What features will the pool include?

Based on many years of public outreach, the White Salmon Valley Pool Metropolitan Park District has identified the following as the most desired components of the planned community pool. The community has clearly identified a pool for aquatic recreation, education, and exercise as of primary importance.

Phase 1 Construction Plan:

  1. Multi-lane swimming pool for family swim, recreation swim, water safety education, exercise and more.

  2. Check-in area + bath house/changing rooms

Future Phases:

  1. Warm pool for teaching, therapy (and relaxation)

  2. Splash pad/water play features/wading area

  3. Community room/area for parties, events, meetings and pool related activities

Some folks have asked about what additional features will be available - The District heard the community loud and clear that a diving board is a big priority and this is included in the construction plan! We found that a diving board does not increase our insurance costs, but it does greatly increase the potential programs the pool can offer, and the deeper pool will cost only marginally more than a shallower pool.

While programing outside of the standard ‘swim lessons’ & ‘water safety’ is still a future discussion, the District hopes to include as many programs for the public as there is interest in and are feasible to implement. Some of the items currently under discussion are swim team practice and competition, water polo/basketball/hockey, kayak roll practice, scuba diving class/practice, summer camp programs, and more. If there are programming ideas that you’d like to share with the District, please contact us here.
